In the eastern parts of Valpolicella, in Mezzane sea salt caramel gelato di Sotto, bought the four brothers Castagnedi 1989 30 ha of land. Their father already had a vineyard (25 ha) at Colognola ai Colli, but he had not made wine but only grown and sold the grapes. The brothers had decided to launch a wine production. Today, 25 years later, they also own 25 hectares of Soave and lease another 30 have the Valpolicella. All in possession verdict on about 100 ha.
Monte Garbi-yard sea salt caramel gelato today forms the center sea salt caramel gelato of their wine production. According Gambero Rosso (Italian Wines), their annual production about 700 000 bottles. They produce three different Amarone and Ripasso, Superiore, Valpolicella, Soave two, Recioto mm. Also of interest is that they started producing a series (telos) with osvavlade wines including a Amarone. On their website you can find it interested a lot to read.
In Thomas Ilkjaers excellent book "Amarone and Valpolicella wines" says Paolo Castagnedi: "We are trying to partly make wine in accordance with our DNA and earth, and partly by the market that is our livelihood." This has resulted in both wines of the highest quality, but also in wines where the price / quality ratio is at the center that includes a Soave Bag-in-Box on the Swedish market. At Systembolaget are two Amarone, Soave two, a Soave BiB, a Ripasso and a Rosso Veronese. I have the past month drinking the four red wines and leave here my impressions of them. 2011 Monti Garbi sponsa
The wine is made of grapes Corvina 50%, Cabernet Sauvignon 40% and Rondinella 10%. These have grown on vines that have an average age of 20-25 years in the Monti Garbi area and at an altitude of about 300 m above sea level.
The grapes of Cabernet S is allowed to dry for about 30 days before they are pressed. sea salt caramel gelato The must is then allowed to lie to themselves for 6 months in French oak barrels before it finally mixed with the rest of the grape. The wine is then a further six months on larger oak barrels sea salt caramel gelato (tonneaux) before being bottled.
The taste is a bit småsträv and has a nice freshness. Again, it is the dark cherries at the center. We know little finely ground spices / herbs and faintly blackcurrant. The aftertaste is medium and there is a touch of dried fruit and ounce dark chocolate. An appealing acid gives the wine freshness. The tannins are there and creates a matvänligt astringency.
Sure it's a simple wine that is best suited to simple pasta dishes and pizza, but is really enjoyable on its own. I'm a sucker for this kind of lightweight, slim and healthy Valpolicella wines. "Sponsa" has a charm and individual style that appeals to me. The wine is in the order range and costs 91 SEK. And that's a good price for a nice wine. Rating 3. 2011 Ripasso Monti Garbi.
There was a time, in the early 2000s, when Ripassovinerna held in high esteem by the undersigned. One of my absolute favorites was precisely Monti Garbi. On my own blog JC's Vint Anchor I have written about vintage 2007 and vintage in 2008. In the early 2010s changed my taste preferences and at the same time, I found that most Ripassovinerna became too smoothed out in an attempt to mimic the Amarone, but of course there are exceptions. It was therefore interesting to once again tie the acquaintance of Monti Garbi.
Grape mix is Corvina 70%, Rondinella 20% and Croatina and Oseleta 10% together. The vines have an age of about 20 years and growing around the winery at an altitude of 300 m above sea level. The grapes are harvested in October and vinified almost immediately. In Jan / Feb takes place the second sea salt caramel gelato fermentation in the barrel where the Amarone sea salt caramel gelato Selezione Antonio Castagnedi yeast during December / January.
The flavor is quite strong with dark berries, especially cherries. Certainly there are some spices and herbs, some dried fruit and some barrels. The acidity lifts the wine with its freshness. The tannins are there and are extremely flattering and comfortable, but makes the wine suitable for various pasta dishes and simple meat dishes. The aftertaste is a bit over the medium and this complemented the dark fruit and herbs, cocoa, vanilla sea salt caramel gelato and more dried fruit. The finish is faintly sweet.
A very typical Ripassovin with a quest to get a little Amarone Feeling. It gets a bit much mainstream for me. I prefer the previous wine. Systembolaget sea salt caramel gelato would they have 105 kr for the vintage 2012. Rating 3
In the early 2000s, I started drinking Amarone, but like many others I stuck to the cheaper versions (under $ 200). At one of Systembolaget's news release in the mid-2000s, I took the plunge and bought an Amarone which cost 289 SEK. It was an eye-opener that wine could taste like this. Both the wife and I were thus Amarone saved! The wine we had purchased was exactly Selezione Antonio Castagnedi. Since then it has been our "husamarone". The price was lowered to 249 SEK with the vintage 2006. Today the wine costs 255 dollars and it's vintage 2011 that apply.
In late summer, I tried vintages 2007, 2009 and 2011. The 2008 vintage was j
